1. BACKGROUND
WWF's vision for the Amazon region is to guarantee an ecologically healthy Amazon Biome that maintains its environmental and cultural contributions to local peoples, the countries of the region and the world, within a framework of social equity, economic development inclusiveness and global responsibility. In this context, the WWF offices in the Amazon region, together with the WWF Amazon Coordination Unit (ACU) , have identified the need to hire a conservation coordinator who also supports the fulfillment of the goal to conserve 80% of the biome (Big Win 3) of the Amazon Push.

2. OBJECTIVE
WWF has identified the need to hire a Conservation Coordinator to lead, coordinate, facilitate and promote the achievement of WWF’s goal to conserve 80% of the Amazon by 2030 as part of the Amazon Push initiative, lead the Amazon Coordination Unit fundraising efforts and serve as the Unit’s science focal point.

3. FUNCTIONS
● Propose and coordinate regional actions to achieve Big Win 3 in coordination with WWF Amazon offices, the WWF Network and external partners.
● Coordinate actions with conservation directors in WWF offices in the Amazon and with the WWF Network.
● Manage ACU projects related to Big Win 3 (Implementation and Reporting)
○ Examples: Jaguar Projects, Indigenous Peoples and others based on need.
● Support WWF’s six Amazon offices in the implementation of regional conservation projects in priority landscapes of the Amazon (technical support, consolidation of information, internal communication, exchange of experiences).
● Manage and build alliances with actors related to Big Win 3, such as the Pan-Amazon Bioeconomy Alliance and the Science Panel for the Amazon
● Lead ACU impact monitoring
● Review scientific methodologies, data sets and reports when necessary (be ACU’s science focal point)
● Serve as ACU focal point for the LAC Conservation Cabinet and WWF Biodiversity Practice.
● Coordinate closely with ACU’s Policy and Communications coordinators to ensure an integrated, coherent and effective strategy.
● Position WWF's Amazon work in strategic spaces and with key regional actors.
● Lead fundraising efforts for ACU/Amazon Push (30% dedication)
● Conservation functions at national level to be determined by the host office (10%)

4. REQUIREMENTS
The opportunity is aimed at candidates based in any of the Amazonian countries where WWF has a
national office (Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Guyana or Suriname).
● Masters degree in fields relevant to the position (conservation, ecology, natural resources, among others).
● In depth knowledge of Amazon ecosystems and regional environmental dynamics.
● Demonstrated scientific background (research and/or publications) and field experience.
● Familiarity with working with indigenous peoples and local communities.
● 3 years’ experience in:
○ Amazonian conservation issues.
○ Coordinating with actors from various sectors and origins.
○ Successful fundraising for conservation projects with international donors.
○ Conservation projects on the ground.
● High English level required; fluency in Spanish or Portuguese desirable.
